Designed for those seeking a career in the emergency services.
An ideal alternative to the First Person on Scene Intermediate (FPOSi) qualification, the QA Level 3 Certificate in First Response Emergency Care (RQF) also forms part of a progressive suite of prehospital care qualifications that leads to the QA Level 6 Diploma in Paramedic Practice (RQF).
Endorsed by The Faculty of Pre-Hospital Care – The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, and fulfilling the competencies set out in the PHEM skills framework at descriptor level D, this qualification is perfect for a range of roles in emergency care, such as: Event Medical Responder, Emergency Care Support Worker and more.
Over a 5 day period, learners will gain the knowledge, skills and competencies needed to deal with a range of pre-hospital care emergencies such as managing a patient’s airways, catastrophic bleeding, management of fractures, medical emergencies and more.
This qualification is for people who have a specific responsibility at work, or in voluntary and community activities, to provide prehospital care to patients requiring emergency care/treatment.
This qualification comprises 3 mandatory units with a Total Qualification Time (TQT) of 150 hours. Learners must complete all assessments/skills tests in the units successfully within the registration period to achieve the qualification.

GLH are a measure of the contact time a typical Learner will require in direct guidance – from a Trainer – to complete their programme of learning successfully, which for this qualification should be a minimum of 35 hours over 5 days (excluding breaks). Sessions should be a minimum of 2 hours. Learners should be encouraged to do a minimum of 118 hours of self-directed study, which should include additional reading and applied practice.
Learners must be at least 17 years old on the first day of the training.
This qualification is valid for a period of 3 years. The Learner needs to retake the qualification before the certificate expiry date to remain qualified.
